This scene form the UK series "Utopia", is where I based this idea for the plot and colour correction. I feel like the colour correction lends well to the, ironically, dystopian feel of the show of a secret organisation running political and medical systems. I like the idea of having a larger threat in my short to the main character. I also like the colour correction when it come to one scene I plan to add to my short since the vibrant colour can juxtapose with the dark scene. In this scene there are a lot of slow zoom ins as well, I feel like I can use this in my short to build tension and also make the scene feel like there is something wrong as well.

I chose this scene from American Psycho, although I could just link the whole movie, in particular because in the movie we see Patrick Bateman pretend to be normal, and in power, but in this scene we see that power dynamic shift and the tone of Patrick change as he is stripped from his charismatic influence on people. I feel like I can add an ambiguous feeling to my short by adding someone who clearly has more power around and on the main character. In this scene there is a lot of wide shots on Patrick Bateman, this usually symbolises a character feeling small and powerless. I feel that my character should be in power for the majority of the short until we meet the character that has power over of him.

The film Man Bites Dog is very similar to what I plan to make. The film is a fake documentary where a film crew follows a serial killer and shows how he kills his victims and his normal life. This concept of a normal person with a dark secret is one that I am very interested in. I also feel like the documentary aspect can give ideas of different camera techniques to use in some shots like the use of a handheld camera. I feel like using the handheld camera when the character kills the victim could make the scene more disturbing.

This scene for the Black Mirror episode Shut Up and Dance is in the same vein as the inspiration I got from Man Bites Dog, but I fell like I can take more inspiration from something based as a drama show. For a basic rundown, this episode follows a character that is being blackmailed, we are to believe that this person is a good person but at the end of the episode we find out that he is the complete opposite. I feel like this can serve as inspiration for how a TV drama approaches this twist since Man Bites Dog tries to make the depictions of what is happening as realistic, while this serves as a way to make it entertaining. There is also an enigma code at the start of the episode, I plan to have one in mine. I plan to make my enigma code a book that the character is reading, I have a book at my house about Jack The Ripper, I feel like this can be good as a little nod to the audience that this person is a killer.

I like this scene since, in the context of the series, this man is the most threatening and powerful person and kills people daily, yet he has a fairly normal and elegant morning routine that is detached from his actions. I feel like this mundane action can be more unsettling when you watch back the video and you know the killing that the character is going to do. The pacing of this part has a certain slow pace that, with paired with the music, reflects Fisk's status and wealth. I feel like doing this but with someone with obviously not as much status or wealth can create an unsettling feeling with the audience.

This video by Adult Swim has a misleading name, I feel like I also would like a title that misleads and diverts audience expectations to make the violent scene in mine more impactful.

In this scene in The Godfather, there is a train that passes by that creates tension for the scene since it is the only sound at some times. Since the place I am filming at is above a train track, it would provide the same sound.

I have an idea of the poster, that being it looking like a comic book cover. I feel like this would help with the TV show feeling that I want to convey, as in I would like this short to feel like a pilot or a trailer for a mystery TV show. I took direct inspiration from this Batman Comic cover because this cover pretty much tells us the story without reading it, there is a house in Gotham that is suspicious and Batman plans to find out what is happening there. I feel like this is a strong cover since there is already a story on the cover but to find out more about the story we need to read it, I feel like this can translate well to a film.
